Lauren and Alex's Darlington House Wedding

#escolaters

Lauren and Alex got married at Darlington House in La Jolla, California and ooooooh, mamaaaaa. (Amy Santiago voice. Sorry if you don’t watch Brooklyn Nine Nine but it’s the only thing that feels right). It’s honestly the first wedding that I’ve ever legitimately felt bummed to have not been at. Just wait. You’ll feel the same after you see the photos that Kami Olavarria slayed.

Miss Escobar and Mr. Slater came together and formed the epic Escolaters and their wedding definitely feels like a career highlight for me. In business, creating ideal client profiles is a thing and I’ve decided to scrap everything I wrote previously and just print out a collage of this wedding to get my point across. From start to finish, my process with them just flowed.

The first piece I created was a two-color letterpress save the date featuring an escalator (get it?) with silhouettes at the top representing their family of three: Lauren, Alex and Muncie the goldendoodle! This graphic later became known as their ‘escolaters’ logo and would become a major detail on their wedding day. So major in fact that I physically could not handle the excitement that I felt whilst looking at the photos. I am talking cake topping, origami making, cocktail art, custom cornhole and sticker level details. Details so exciting that I used the word whilst.

When it came to their custom invitation suite, I was incredibly excited to use Darlington House as inspiration. The architecture and patterns that make up the venue are timeless and I knew right away that I wanted to recreate them. We later carried these patterns into their ceremony programs and for other day of details like their escort cards and table numbers, we pulled in Alex’s work with and love for the LA Dodgers! All of these designs coupled with Lauren and Alex’s desire for bold colors created killer pieces that highlighted their fun personalities and those cool-without-trying vibes that Southern California is known for.

More design details and photos to come in a Behind The Bones post coming soon!

Stay pressed.
